Businesses invited to join panel of experts for discussion on ‘how to adapt to rising flood risk’

On Tuesday 18 October 2022, the Flood Innovation Centre and Living With Water will host an interactive panel discussion about how businesses in the Humber region can adapt to rising flood risk.

The event is part of the Waterline Summit, which runs from 17 to 19 October and is organised by the University of Hull and Marketing Humber to help businesses and communities learn about, discuss and tackle climate change.

Entitled ‘How to adapt to rising flood risk’, the panel discussion will take place at 1pm at Aura Innovation Centre at Bridgehead Park at Hessle in East Yorkshire. It forms part of a day-long programme of events on the theme of ‘adaptation and resilience’, and is an opportunity for businesses and communities to find out more about the support on offer to help them adapt to the increasing risk of flooding.

Pip Betts, Project Manager of the Flood Innovation Centre, said:

“Climate change is the greatest challenge of our time, and it’s increasing the frequency and the intensity of flood events. Nationally, Hull and the Humber region is second only to London in terms of flood risk.

“We’ve got a really strong line-up of regional experts in the field of flood resilience on our discussion panel and members of the audience will be invited to get involved and have their say too. It promises to be a lively and informative event.”

Joining the panel for the discussion, which will be chaired by David Wilkes of Arup, are Martin Budd, Climate Change Manager at Hull City Council; Helen Todd, Humber Strategic Manager at the Environment Agency; Alex Codd, Assistant Director of Economic Development and Regeneration at Hull City Council; Jessica Green, Flood Risk and Engagement Engineer at Yorkshire Water; and Pip Betts, Project Manager at the Flood Innovation Centre. Each speaker will give a short introduction before opening the discussion up to include the audience.
