New to the Flood Innovation Centre? Please register for this workshop by 20 April.

Join our interactive workshop, designed to support organisations who are interested in biodiversity and sustainable interventions to help flood and climate resilience.

The workshop will be delivered by John Little, Grass Roof Company and brownfield substrate innovator, who previously co-delivered our Rain Gardens workshop.

John will give an overview on the potential to introduce biodiversity in sites of differing scale, and in various challenging conditions such as flood or drought-prone spaces. He is a renowned specialist in introducing biodiversity and an innovator of green roofs. The workshop will also cover aspects of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS). He will also touch on the importance of ongoing maintenance of these systems.

“I thought it was very well organised and the speakers were very knowledgeable, approachable and engaging. John’s presentation was fun and inspiring” Participant on our recent Rain Gardens workshop

We will also call on Dr Stuart McLelland of the University of Hull’s Energy and Environment Institute, who will give a guided tour of the SuDSLabUK, an award-winning, campus-wide living lab for Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).

SuDS incorporate natural water management practices to help slow, store and filter excess surface water and are used to improve flood resilience as well as having added benefits around improving water quality, biodiversity and amenity, incorporating specific planting schemes. SuDS can transform community spaces and help protect business premises from flood.

The workshop will be of interest to: landscape designers; professional gardening services; gardening charities; village halls; estates managers.

Sign up to this workshop and learn new skills, network with experts and gain inspiration for a more resilient future!

The Flood Innovation Centre receives ERDF funding, in order to offer our free workshops, networking events and bespoke programmes of support, including free flood surveys and business development support around flood resilience. If you are not already registered with the Flood Innovation Centre we will need to run through some further paperwork before we are able to confirm your place on this workshop. We do not charge for our events, but it is a condition of our ERDF funding that we offer our services to eligible SMEs and registered charities.
